Project MAVIC (Minimum Ascent Vehicle for Interplanetary Crew) was part of the 2021 NASA Revolutionary Aerospace Systems Concepts - Academic Linkage competition, of which we were finalists. I worked on the structures team to research and design the MAV and an entry system.
Project MAVIC (Minimum Ascent Vehicle for Interplanetary Crew) was part of the 2021 NASA Revolutionary Aerospace Systems Concepts - Academic Linkage competition, of which we were finalists. I worked on the structures team to research and design the MAV and an entry system.
The entry system used for the project was an inflatable tunnel that connected the MAV with the Mars rover. This would prevent astronauts from needing to don EVA suits before entering the MAV, allowing for a more comfortable flight and transition to the ERV.Â
